TED JOHNSON RECOMMENDS · PICKS & RESOURCES

Things I use, know, or genuinely recommend.

This is not a generic affiliate storefront. A recommendation belongs here only when I actually use it, have meaningful experience with it, or can honestly explain why it may help someone.

Experience first Problem it solves Who it helps When to skip it

Amazon disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Paid links are clearly identified so you know before you click.

PRIME BIG DEAL DAYS · OCTOBER 6–7

I’ll be watching the deals so you don’t have to.

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are October 6–7. I’ll highlight worthwhile deals on products I actually use, have experience with, or can genuinely recommend — not random sale junk just because it has a discount sticker.

The rule: A sale does not turn a bad fit into a good buy. Check back here as deals appear, and I’ll keep the recommendations practical.

THE RESOURCE BOARD

Recommendations have started earning their place.

This first shelf is intentionally small. I’ll keep adding practical picks as I can explain the experience behind them — including current versions when an older product I owned has moved on.

Technology

Technology

Hardware, smart-home gear, RV systems, and practical technology I use, know, or can recommend from real experience.

Ted UsesRV Cooling · Amazon

Furrion Chill Cube 18K RV AC

I upgraded my RV cooling because Texas heat does not care about excuses. The Chill Cube’s variable-speed design, lower noise, and extreme-heat performance earned its place here.

My field test
In 100°F-plus Texas heat, I measured about 55°F at the vent with the same handheld thermometer that showed about 69°F on my older unit. That is my own observation, not a lab test.
Why it matters
Variable-speed cooling can maintain comfort at lower output instead of always running flat-out, which can help with noise and energy use.
Know before you buy
My RV uses a ducted setup. The rooftop unit and ducted distribution/control components can be separate purchases, so verify your configuration first.

Heat-Pump PickRV Cooling & Heat · Amazon

FOGATTI 16K RV AC with Heat Pump

I like redundancy in an RV. A heat-pump-equipped rooftop unit gives me another way to heat the space as well as cool it, alongside propane and electric backup heat.

Why I like the idea
More than one heating source means more options when weather, propane, shore power, or equipment does not cooperate.
Who it helps
RV owners who want rooftop cooling plus another practical heating option.
Know before you buy
This Amazon link is for the current non-ducted model shown. My own configuration may differ, so confirm ducted/non-ducted compatibility before ordering.

Chamberlain Belt Drive myQ Garage Door Opener

I installed an earlier Chamberlain belt-drive myQ opener myself and liked the quiet operation and smart control. The linked model is a current step-up version that also includes a camera.

What solved it for me
Quiet belt-drive operation plus phone control made the garage door easier to live with and easier to automate.
Current-model note
I did not own this exact camera-equipped version. My recommendation comes from hands-on experience with the Chamberlain/myQ line.
Who it helps
Homeowners who want a quieter opener and useful smart-garage features.

Current Value PickTV · Amazon

Hisense 55" E6 Cinema Series

Our older Hisense U6G worked well as a bedroom TV and fit the budget. TVs keep evolving, so I would rather point you toward a current option than send you hunting for the exact 2021 set I bought.

Why Hisense is here
My U6G did the job without premium-TV money. That real experience is why I continue to look at the brand.
How I think about TVs
You do not always need the most expensive TV. You need the one that does the job for your room and your budget.
Current-model note
I owned the older U6G, not this exact E6. Compare current size, platform, inputs, and features to what you actually need.

The No-BS Body Recomposition Guide for Men Over 40. Decades of lifting, experimenting, recovering, adapting, and learning what matters when you want strength and a better body without chasing nonsense.

The idea
You may already have more muscle than you think. Sometimes the bigger change comes from losing what hides it and training intelligently enough to keep going.
Who it is for
Men over 40 getting back in shape, holding onto strength, improving body composition, or tired of fitness marketing that makes everything unnecessarily complicated.

Practical GuideTechnology · Payhip

Everyday Tech Confidence

Plain-English help for using everyday technology with more confidence and less frustration.

Why I wrote it
People are constantly expected to understand technology they were never clearly taught. This guide is meant to close that gap without making the reader become a technician.
BookTechnology · Amazon

The Computer Skills Nobody Taught You

A practical guide to everyday computer skills people are often expected to know but were never clearly taught.

The approach
Useful computer skills explained in plain English, with the assumption that the reader wants to get something done — not earn a computer-science degree.
Book / ChecklistTechnology · Amazon

The No-Nonsense Home Technology Checklist

A practical Windows-user checklist for keeping everyday home technology understandable, useful, and under control.

Who it helps
People who want a straightforward way to check the technology around the house without turning the process into another full-time job.

BookStrength & Stewardship · Amazon

Current PickLifting Gear · Amazon

Evo 2 Weightlifting Gloves with Wrist Wrap Support

I have used wrist-support lifting gloves for years. The integrated wrap is the part that matters to me, especially when I want extra support around my left wrist.

Why I use this style
Grip protection is useful, but the built-in wrist support is what makes this style earn a place in my gym bag.
Who it helps
Lifters who prefer gloves and want an integrated wrap instead of carrying separate wrist wraps.
Know before you buy
Fit and wrist-support preference are personal. Choose the size and support level that work for your training.

Basic Gym GearLifting Belt · Amazon

Valeo 6-Inch Back Support / Lifting Belt

I used an older Valeo 6-inch lifting belt for years. My exact original model is no longer available, so this is the current Valeo option I would look at for straightforward support.

Why it earns a spot
Some gym gear does not need to be complicated. A basic belt can be a useful piece of equipment when you already know why and when you want one.
Current-model note
This is not the exact Valeo belt I originally owned. Check sizing and intended use before ordering.

Ted’s Preferred VersionRV Kitchen · Amazon

Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 Digital Flip Oven

I have owned several Ninja flip-up ovens, and the 9-in-1 is the version I prefer. In an RV, it can be the difference between cooking comfortably and firing up a propane oven in summer.

Why it works for me
It cooks more evenly for me, handles several jobs in one appliance, and flips up when I am done so I get precious counter space back. BAM.
Who it helps
RV owners, small kitchens, or anyone who wants a capable countertop oven without permanently surrendering the counter.
Learned the hard way
I damaged my first one through improper cleaning. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.

Ted UsesCookware · Amazon

Astercook 19-Piece Cookware Set

These have been a real joy to cook in, and cleanup has been a breeze in my use. I wanted to get away from old, scratched-up and nicked nonstick cookware.

Why I like it
The set gives me a useful range of pans while the cooking surface has been easy to work with and easy to clean.
Who it helps
Someone replacing a tired mixed set and wanting one coordinated cookware setup.
Care matters
I do not call any coating “safer” just because it is newer. Follow the manufacturer’s use and care instructions and protect the cooking surface.

ThermoMaven Rechargeable Salt & Pepper Grinder Set

A rechargeable electric option for seasoning at the stove or table, with 110 ml capacity, an LED light, stainless steel construction, and six adjustable coarseness settings.

Someone who prefers push-button grinding and wants to adjust the grind for different dishes.
When to skip it
If you prefer a manual mill and do not want another kitchen tool to charge, consider the Ebaco set below.
Before ordering
Check the selected model, current price, and charging and care instructions on Amazon.

Coffee

Coffee

Brewing gear and coffee tools that have earned an honest recommendation.

Ted UsesCoffee · Amazon

Bodum Brazil 51 oz French Press

I bought two of these. When I have the time and want what I consider the ultimate cup of joe, French press is still one of my favorite ways to make coffee.

Why it earns a spot
Simple equipment, no complicated electronics, and the brewing method lets the coffee do the talking.
Who it helps
Coffee drinkers who enjoy the ritual and want a straightforward full-immersion brewer.
When to skip it
If you need coffee immediately on the way out the door, use the faster method. Not every cup needs to be a ceremony.
See the Bodum French Press on Amazon
Fast Coffee PickCoffee · Amazon

Keurig K-Express Single-Serve Coffee Maker

When I do not have time for the French press, this is the other side of the coffee equation: quick, simple, and out the door.

Why it earns a spot
Sometimes convenience wins. Three brew sizes, a strong-brew option, and a removable reservoir make it a practical everyday machine.
Who it helps
Anyone who wants one cup fast without turning coffee into a project.
The Ted rule
French press when I have the time. Keurig when I do not. BAM.
